Can clinical acne treatment work where other products and treatments haven't?
If you have tried over-the-counter products, followed skincare routines and still not seen the improvement you want, the reason is almost always the same: acne has more than one cause, and products that address only one factor are unlikely to clear skin that has multiple contributing factors at play.
Acne is driven by a combination of excess sebum production, blocked follicles, bacterial activity, inflammation, and in many cases hormonal influence. The relative contribution of each factor varies between individuals and between different types of acne on the same person's skin. A clinical assessment does something a shelf product cannot: it identifies which factors are most relevant for your skin and builds a treatment approach around that.
This does not mean clinical treatment is always more complicated or more intensive. In some cases, the right combination of targeted treatments alongside a simplified skincare approach is enough to bring acne under control. What matters is starting with an accurate picture of what is driving it.
At Changes Clinic, your practitioner assesses your skin type, acne presentation, history of previous treatments and any relevant health factors before recommending anything. If your acne requires onward medical management, we will tell you.

Treatment plans are typically reviewed over a series of appointments, with adjustments made based on your skin's response.

Acne treatment performed by our specialist practitioners
Acne treatment at Changes Clinic is not a facial with an upgrade. Our practitioners assess your skin clinically, identify the likely drivers of your acne, and recommend a targeted treatment approach. They also screen for factors that mean clinical treatment alone is unlikely to be sufficient, such as hormonal acne that requires medical management.
We work from a CQC-registered clinic at 1000 Lakeside, Cosham, Portsmouth. Your first appointment is a consultation and skin assessment. We do not recommend a full treatment course before we have assessed your skin and discussed your history.

What our clients say
Common questions
Is clinical acne treatment safe?
Clinical acne treatments at Changes Clinic are selected based on your skin type and acne grade. Chemical peels and laser treatments are safe when used at the correct concentration and energy levels for your skin tone and condition. Some treatments cause temporary redness, dryness or sensitivity during the course. Your practitioner will advise on any risks specific to the treatment recommended for you and will adjust the plan based on your skin's response at each appointment.
How is clinical acne treatment different from using over-the-counter skincare?
Over-the-counter products work at the skin surface and typically address one mechanism, such as antibacterial action or gentle exfoliation. Clinical treatments can address multiple drivers of acne simultaneously: reducing bacterial load, clearing blocked follicles, regulating sebum, calming inflammation and promoting cellular turnover. Clinical-grade products and in-clinic treatments work at concentrations and depths that are not available without a clinical assessment. For moderate to severe acne, or acne that has not responded to OTC products, clinical treatment provides a meaningfully different approach.
Can acne treatment be combined with other treatments at Changes Clinic?
Yes, depending on the stage of your treatment. Once active acne is under control, skin booster treatments and certain laser treatments can improve skin texture, reduce post-acne pigmentation and address scarring left by previous breakouts. Your practitioner will advise on when and how to introduce additional treatments, as some cannot be combined with active acne treatment safely. This will be part of your ongoing treatment review.
