Does Fat Dissolving Actually Work?
Fat dissolving injections have attracted a great deal of scepticism, and some of it is deserved. The treatment does work for the right person in the right treatment area, but it is not a weight loss method and it is not suitable for everyone. The results you see online depend heavily on the clinic delivering the treatment and the suitability of the client receiving it.
The active ingredient in fat dissolving injections is deoxycholic acid, a compound the body produces naturally to break down dietary fat. When injected into a localised deposit of subcutaneous fat, it permanently destroys fat cells in that area. Those cells do not regenerate. However, the treatment only addresses small, defined areas, typically under the chin, inner thighs, abdomen, flanks or upper arms. It is not effective for large volumes of fat or for fat positioned deep beneath the muscle.
The clinics producing poor results are often those that skip or minimise the assessment stage. At Changes Clinic, your qualified, experienced & insured practitioners review your medical history and assesses the treatment area before any injection is placed. If you are not a good candidate, we tell you clearly.

About Fat Dissolving Injections at Changes Clinic
We use Aqualyx, a CE-marked fat dissolving solution with a well-established clinical record. Your qualified, experienced & insured practitioners identifies the specific fat deposits to be treated, marks the injection sites and administers the solution in a series of small injections across the area. The treatment breaks down the targeted fat cells, which the body then processes and eliminates naturally over several weeks.
Most clients require two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart to achieve their desired result. Results become visible from around six weeks after each session, with the full effect usually apparent after the final session.

Fat Dissolving Carried Out by Our Qualified, experienced & insured practitioners
Fat dissolving injections are injectable treatments that require precise anatomical knowledge. Injecting the wrong depth, wrong location, or wrong dose can produce uneven results or unwanted tissue damage. At Changes Clinic, all fat dissolving treatments are carried out by our qualified, experienced & insured practitioners, working from our CQC-registered clinic in Portsmouth.
Your qualified, experienced & insured practitioners assess the fat deposit, confirms you are a suitable candidate and explains the expected number of sessions and realistic outcome before treatment begins. What Our Clients Say
Common Questions
Is fat dissolving safe?
Aqualyx has been used clinically for over a decade and has a well-documented safety profile. Common side effects include swelling, redness, bruising and temporary tenderness in the treated area, all of which resolve within days to a couple of weeks. Serious complications are rare when the treatment is administered by a qualified, experienced & insured practitioner who has completed a thorough pre-treatment assessment. Fat dissolving is not suitable for people who are pregnant, breastfeeding or who have certain medical conditions, which is why the consultation stage is not optional at Changes Clinic.
How is fat dissolving different from liposuction?
Liposuction removes fat mechanically through a surgical procedure under general or local anaesthetic. It can treat larger volumes and produces faster results, but it carries the risks associated with surgery and requires significant recovery time. Fat dissolving injections are a non-surgical alternative suited to smaller, targeted deposits. The results are more gradual and require multiple sessions, but there is no surgery, no anaesthetic and no extended downtime. Fat dissolving does not replace liposuction for larger concerns, but for the right candidate with the right area it delivers permanent results without going into an operating theatre.
Can fat dissolving be combined with other treatments at Changes Clinic?
Yes. Many clients combine fat dissolving with body contouring treatments or with skin tightening options such as HIFU where appropriate. Your qualified, experienced & insured practitioners will advise what works well in combination and whether staging treatments makes sense for your specific goals. We do not add treatments to a plan without a clinical reason for doing so.
