Does HIFU actually lift skin — and is it worth the investment?
HIFU is one of the most discussed non-surgical skin treatments, and the scepticism around it is understandable. The market is full of devices that use the HIFU name without the clinical credentials to back up their claims. Whether HIFU works depends on the quality of the device, the settings used, and whether the treatment is matched to what your skin actually needs.
HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. The technology delivers precise ultrasound energy to the SMAS layer, the deep structural tissue beneath the dermis that a surgeon targets in a traditional facelift. At that depth, the energy creates a controlled thermal effect that stimulates the body's own collagen production process. Over the following weeks and months, the treated tissue tightens and lifts as new collagen forms.
Clinical studies support the effectiveness of HIFU for mild to moderate skin laxity. The results are not instant — peak improvement is typically seen at around three months — but they are genuine and structural, not superficial. For clients who are not ready for surgery, or who want to maintain skin quality before surgery becomes relevant, HIFU produces real, measurable improvement.
At Changes Clinic, your qualified, experienced & insured practitioners assess your skin before any HIFU treatment. We will tell you honestly what HIFU can and cannot achieve for your specific concerns.

About HIFU at Changes Clinic
Our qualified, experienced & insured practitioners use focused ultrasound technology to treat the face, brow, jawline, neck and decolletage. HIFU is particularly effective for lifting the brow and midface, defining the jawline, tightening the neck and reducing the appearance of sagging skin.
The energy is delivered in precise focal points at the target depth, leaving the skin surface unaffected. Most clients find the treatment tolerable, with a warming or tingling sensation during the energy delivery. Treatment time varies based on the areas covered.

HIFU energy reaches the deep structural layers of the skin. The depth of energy delivery, the intensity used and the areas targeted all require clinical assessment and proper training. At Changes Clinic, your qualified, experienced & insured practitioners carry out a thorough skin and tissue assessment before any HIFU treatment begins.

What our clients say
Common questions
Is HIFU safe?
HIFU has a well-documented safety record in clinical use. The ultrasound energy targets tissue below the skin surface, leaving the outer skin layers intact. The most common effects are temporary redness, warmth, mild swelling and occasional tingling in the treated area, which typically settle within 48 hours. Some clients experience temporary numbness at the treatment site, which resolves within a few days to weeks. Our qualified, experienced & insured practitioners assess your skin and suitability before any treatment.
How is HIFU different from surgical skin tightening?
Surgery physically repositions and removes tissue through incisions under general anaesthesia, with a recovery period of several weeks. HIFU stimulates the body to produce new collagen at the structural level, without incisions or significant downtime. The degree of improvement is less dramatic than surgery for clients with significant laxity, but HIFU is appropriate for a much wider group of clients, carries no surgical risk, and fits around a normal working schedule. For clients with moderate laxity, it is often the most appropriate first-line treatment.
Can HIFU be combined with other treatments at Changes Clinic?
Yes. HIFU combines well with dermal fillers, which address volume loss alongside the lifting effect HIFU provides. Anti-wrinkle injections can also complement HIFU results by treating dynamic lines in areas the HIFU has tightened. Skin booster treatments work alongside HIFU to improve skin hydration and texture at the same time. Your qualified, experienced & insured practitioners will advise on a combined treatment plan at your free consultation.
