How laser hair removal works
Laser hair removal uses targeted pulses of light absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. The light converts to heat, which damages the follicle and prevents future growth. With each session, hair grows back finer and lighter until most clients achieve a permanent reduction of up to 90-99%.
For hair removal we offer four technologies: Diode, YAG, BBL and IPL. Our Level 4 VTCT qualified practitioners advise which is most appropriate for your hair type, skin tone and the area being treated.
Skin tightening, rejuvenation and pigmentation are treated with BBL, YAG and IPL — Diode is used for hair removal only. Those treatments are covered on our IPL skin therapy page.
Your first consultation and patch test are free.

Why more than one session is needed
Hair grows in cycles. Laser is only effective during the active growth phase, and not all follicles are in that phase at the same time. A course of six to eight sessions, spaced four to eight weeks apart, catches follicles at the right point in their cycle.
Most clients see significant reduction by session four, with the best results after the full course.
If laser is not the right fit for your hair type or colour, IPL hair removal or Sterex electrolysis are alternatives we can discuss at your consultation.

What our clients say
Common questions
Am I a good candidate for laser hair removal?
Laser works best on dark hair against lighter skin, as the contrast allows the laser to target the follicle precisely. Diode laser suits a wider range of skin tones. YAG laser is safe for darker skin. We assess your suitability at consultation and patch test.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe it as a mild snapping sensation. Smaller and more sensitive areas can be more uncomfortable, but the treatment is fast in those areas. We can discuss options to manage discomfort at your consultation.
How many sessions do I need?
Typically six to eight sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart for laser hair removal Portsmouth. This varies by area and hair type. After your full course, occasional maintenance sessions may be needed.
Can I shave between sessions?
Yes. Shaving is fine between sessions. You should avoid waxing, threading or plucking, as these remove the follicle that the laser needs to target.
Is there any downtime?
No. The skin may appear slightly red immediately after treatment, but this usually settles within a few hours. You can return to normal activities the same day.
What is the difference between Diode and YAG laser?
Diode laser is effective across a broad range of skin and hair types. YAG laser penetrates deeper and is the safer option for darker skin tones. We recommend the right technology for you based on your assessment.
