How PRP hair treatment works

We start with a blood draw from your arm — no different from a standard blood test. The blood goes into a centrifuge, which spins it to separate the components and concentrate the platelets into a small volume of plasma.

That platelet-rich plasma is then injected into the areas of the scalp where thinning is occurring. Platelets carry growth factors that signal the body to repair and regenerate. Delivered into the scalp, they improve blood supply to the follicle, stimulate it to produce thicker hair, and in some cases reactivate follicles that have become dormant.

Because the treatment uses your own blood, there is no risk of allergic reaction. The appointment takes up to 60 minutes.

What results to expect

PRP hair treatment is not a cure for hair loss, and it will not regrow hair in areas where follicles have stopped working entirely. It works best as a treatment to slow thinning and improve the thickness and quality of existing hair.

Most clients see the first signs of improvement four to six weeks after treatment. A course of three sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, produces the best results. The full effect from a course is typically visible at three to six months as the follicles respond and new growth comes through.

PRP responds best to androgenetic alopecia in its earlier stages. After the initial course, maintenance sessions every six to twelve months help sustain the result. PRP is also commonly used after a hair transplant to support recovery of the transplanted follicles.

I’ve suffered with rosacea for several years and have tried all sorts of creams, skincare routines and products, but nothing really made a lasting difference. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with great staff. My lazer hair removal was undertaken by two very capable proffessional young women Kelly and Surmaiyah. Both demonstrate constant care and ensure this not always comfortable experience is as pleasant as possible. The facility is immaculately clean and there is excellent visitor free parking available. How many sessions do I need?

A course of three sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, is the standard starting point. Most clients then move to maintenance sessions every six to twelve months to sustain the result. A single session produces some benefit, but the growth factor response compounds across a course.

Is PRP hair treatment painful?

The blood draw is the same as a standard blood test. The scalp injections cause some discomfort. We apply numbing cream to the scalp beforehand to reduce this, and most clients find the treatment manageable.

Does PRP work for all types of hair loss?

PRP is most effective for androgenetic alopecia (male and female pattern hair loss) and some cases of hormonal or stress-related thinning. It produces limited results for alopecia areata or hair loss caused by follicle scarring. We assess your hair loss at your consultation and give you an honest picture of what to expect before you commit to treatment.
