When laser cannot help
Laser and IPL hair removal work by targeting pigment in the hair. That means they are less effective on hair that has little pigment: grey, white, blonde and fine hair. Sterex electrolysis works differently. It targets the follicle directly with a fine probe, destroying it regardless of the hair colour. For clients with lighter or finer hair, it is often the only method that achieves permanent removal.
Sterex is also well suited for small, precise areas such as the upper lip, chin, eyebrows and individual hairs anywhere on the face or body.

How Sterex electrolysis works
A very fine probe is inserted alongside the hair follicle. A small electrical current is applied, which permanently destroys the follicle's ability to produce hair. The treated hair is then removed. Because each follicle is treated individually, sessions are time-based rather than area-based.
We offer 15, 30, 45 and 60-minute sessions. The number of sessions needed depends on the amount of hair and the area being treated.

The right choice for some, an alternative for others
For clients with darker hair on lighter skin, laser hair removal or IPL hair removal will usually achieve results more quickly and across larger areas. Sterex is better suited for precision work, resistant hairs that remain after a laser course, or any hair that is too light for laser to detect.
We often recommend a combination approach at consultation.

What our clients say
Common questions
Is Sterex painful?
There is a brief sensation as each follicle is treated, but most clients find it very manageable. The fine probe is precise and causes minimal discomfort to surrounding skin.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on the area, the amount of hair and how your body responds. Hair grows in cycles, so multiple sessions are needed to catch each follicle at the right point. We will give you a realistic estimate at your consultation.
Can Sterex be used anywhere on the body?
Yes. It is particularly effective for small, precise areas such as the face, eyebrows and upper lip, but it can be used on any area.
Is it suitable for all skin types?
Yes. Unlike laser, Sterex electrolysis hair removal Portsmouth works on all skin tones without risk from skin pigment differences.
Can I use Sterex alongside laser hair removal?
Yes. Many clients use laser for the main areas and Sterex to treat any remaining finer or lighter hairs. We can discuss a combined approach at your consultation.
Why is treatment charged by time rather than area?
Because each follicle is treated individually, the number of hairs we can treat in a session depends on the area and hair density. Charging by time is the clearest way to reflect this.
