Saline Tattoo Removal in Portsmouth
Changes Clinic does not offer laser tattoo removal. We use saline removal, a non-laser method best suited to permanent make-up, microbladed brows and small cosmetic tattoos.
A concentrated salt-and-water solution is worked into the skin to lift and fade unwanted pigment. It works on all ink colours, and is often chosen for cosmetic pigments that laser struggles to clear. We also correct and neutralise brow tattoos that have changed colour or shape over time.
Your consultation is free, and we will tell you honestly whether saline removal is right for your tattoo.
How Saline Tattoo Removal Works
A hypertonic saline solution is deposited into the skin, at the depth where the pigment sits, using a tattoo or microblading machine. The high salt content creates an osmotic pressure difference, which draws the trapped pigment molecules upward toward the surface of the skin.
The treated area then forms a scab that traps the loosened pigment and expels it as the skin heals and the scab falls away naturally. Fading is gradual and builds across appointments.
Saline Removal Compared With Laser
Both methods remove pigment, but they work differently and suit different tattoos. We offer saline removal only.
What Each Is Best For
Saline removal is most commonly used for permanent make-up, such as microbladed eyebrows, and for small cosmetic tattoos. Laser is the standard approach for large body tattoos. If your tattoo would be better treated with laser, we will tell you at consultation rather than take the booking.
Ink Colours
Saline works on all ink colours. It is often chosen when laser removal has failed to clear stubborn shades, or for the specific pigments used in cosmetic tattooing, which can respond poorly to laser.
How They Differ
Saline physically opens the top layer of the skin to draw the pigment out. A laser instead shatters the pigment beneath the skin so the body absorbs and clears it internally.
Brow Tattoo Correction
Brow tattoos change colour as they age. We correct and neutralise them rather than simply adding more pigment.
Blue or Grey Brows
Caused by ageing black or dark grey pigment that was placed too deep in the skin. We use warm orange or pumpkin colour correctors to offset the cool tone.
Red or Pink Brows
Caused by iron oxides in the original pigment breaking down over time. We use olive or green correctors to neutralise the redness.
How Many Appointments
Neutralisation typically requires three to four professional appointments. Colour correction is gradual, and rushing it does not improve the result.
Shape and Density
Over-saturated or misshapen brows should not simply receive extra layers of pigment. Adding more causes heavy clumping and unnatural thickness. Correcting the shape properly means lifting pigment first, not covering it.
