Skin lesions, including moles, cysts, lipomas, skin tags and sebaceous cysts, require clinical assessment before removal. The priority is to determine whether a lesion is benign or requires further investigation. At Changes Clinic, our GP carries out every assessment. This is not an aesthetic decision. It is a medical one.
Our clinic at 1000 Lakeside, Cosham, Portsmouth is CQC-registered. CQC registration means our clinical procedures, hygiene standards and practitioner qualifications meet the standards set by the independent regulator for health and social care in England. Skin lesion removal involves breaking the skin and, in most cases, excising tissue. The clinical environment this requires is substantively different from an aesthetic treatment room.
The initial consultation includes a visual examination of the lesion, a review of your medical history and a discussion of the appropriate removal method. For any lesion that raises concern, we refer for further investigation before proceeding. Once the assessment confirms the lesion is suitable for removal, your GP will explain the procedure, the expected healing process and what to do if you have any concerns after treatment. You can find more information on our skin lesion removal service page.

What we treat
We remove a range of benign skin lesions including moles, skin tags, sebaceous cysts, lipomas, dermatofibromas, warts and verrucae. Removal methods include surgical excision, shave excision and cryotherapy, depending on the type, size and location of the lesion.
Removed tissue can be sent for histological analysis if clinically appropriate. Your GP will advise on this at the consultation.

What our patients say
Common questions
How far is Changes Clinic from Alton?
Changes Clinic is at 1000 Lakeside, Cosham, Portsmouth. Patients from Alton typically reach us in around 40 to 45 minutes via the A31. Free parking is available at the clinic, and the site is easy to find from the main road into Cosham.
Is a consultation required before skin lesion removal?
Yes, without exception. Our GP examines the lesion before any removal takes place. This step confirms the lesion is benign, identifies the appropriate removal method, and gives you accurate information about what the procedure involves and how to care for the wound afterwards. The consultation is free and takes place at our Portsmouth clinic.
How long does recovery take after skin lesion removal?
Recovery depends on the removal method and the size of the lesion. Minor skin tag and shave excision wounds typically heal within 7 to 10 days. Larger surgical excisions, which require sutures, usually take 2 to 3 weeks to heal fully. Your GP will give you written aftercare instructions and explain what to look out for during healing.
What makes Changes Clinic different from a beauty salon or non-clinical provider?
Skin lesion removal is a medical procedure and should only be carried out by a qualified clinician who can assess the lesion before removal. Our treatments are performed by a GP in a CQC-registered clinic. This is categorically different from laser or diathermy removal offered in beauty salons without prior medical assessment. The clinical assessment is what protects you from having a lesion removed that should have been referred for further investigation first.
