What Does Skin Lesion Removal Actually Involve?
Skin lesions are a broad category. They include moles (benign melanocytic naevi), sebaceous cysts, lipomas, skin tags, dermatofibromas, and other benign growths on or just beneath the skin surface. The method of removal depends on the lesion type, its depth, its size, and its location. Superficial tags and small benign lesions can often be removed by electrosurgery or shave excision under local anaesthetic with minimal scarring. Cysts and lipomas, which lie beneath the skin surface, require a small incision to remove the capsule in full; removing only the contents leaves the cyst or lipoma likely to return. Moles with any features warranting further review should always be sent to histology.
At Changes Clinic, your clinician assesses the lesion and explains exactly what the removal will involve, what the procedure feels like, what you will see and feel during the procedure, and what healing looks like. You do not proceed to removal without understanding what you have agreed to.
Here is what we offer at Changes Clinic.
About Skin Lesion Removal at Changes Clinic
Your appointment begins with a clinical assessment. Your clinician examines the lesion, records its characteristics, and confirms the appropriate removal method. Where a lesion has any features that warrant further examination, histology (sending the removed tissue to a laboratory for analysis) is offered and strongly recommended. Treatment takes between 20 and 60 minutes depending on the complexity of the lesion and how many are being removed. Aftercare instructions are provided before you leave.
Skin Lesion Removal Carried Out by Our Clinician
The CQC registration of our clinic means our procedures, equipment, and hygiene standards are subject to regulatory oversight. Our clinician has the training and experience to identify when a lesion warrants referral rather than private removal and will advise you clearly in those situations.
