Skin lesion removal at Changes Clinic is a minor surgical procedure carried out under local anaesthetic. We remove cysts, lipomas, moles, skin tags, warts, milia and other benign skin lesions through excision, using a technique appropriate to the type, size and location of the lesion. This is not the same as surface-level removal methods offered in beauty settings. When a lesion is excised surgically, the entire lesion including any root or capsule is removed. This produces a cleaner result and a much lower rate of recurrence.
Our clinicians assess every lesion before any treatment is recommended. This assessment covers the appearance, size, border, symmetry, colour and any changes the patient has noticed over time. We follow the ABCDE assessment criteria for pigmented lesions to identify any features that warrant referral for further investigation before removal. If there is any concern, we refer before we treat.
Where clinically indicated, we can send excised tissue for histological examination. We do not downgrade this step. If there is a clinical reason to have a lesion analysed, we will recommend it and arrange it.

What we treat
We remove cysts (including epidermoid and pilar cysts), lipomas, moles, skin tags, warts, dermatofibromas and other benign skin lesions. We treat lesions on the face, scalp, neck, back, chest, arms and other body areas. Treatment is available for patients aged 18 and over.
Lesion size, depth and location determine the technique used and the time required. Your clinician will give you a clear assessment of what the procedure involves and what to expect from the healing period at your consultation.

Common questions
How far is Changes Clinic from Chichester?
Changes Clinic is at 1000 Lakeside, Cosham, Portsmouth. From Chichester, the drive takes around 20 to 25 minutes heading east on the A27. Free parking is available at the clinic.
Is a consultation required before skin lesion removal?
Yes. Our clinician needs to assess the lesion before recommending a removal technique. This assessment covers the clinical characteristics of the lesion, your medical history, any blood thinning medications and the suitability of the area for minor surgery. For any lesion with features that raise concern, we will refer before proceeding with removal. The consultation is included in your appointment.
What results should I expect after skin lesion removal?
The lesion is removed at the appointment. You will leave with a small wound closed with sutures. Sutures are typically removed at 7 to 14 days. A small scar is expected at the excision site and will fade over the following six to twelve months. The outcome depends on the size and location of the lesion and how your skin heals. Your clinician will advise you on scar care after the procedure.
What makes Changes Clinic different from a beauty salon offering lesion removal?
Surgical skin lesion removal is a medical procedure. It requires clinical training, sterile technique and proper assessment before any tissue is removed. At Changes Clinic, our clinicians carry out a structured assessment of every lesion, work under CQC-registered clinical governance and can refer for histology where appropriate. Non-clinical venues offering laser or cryotherapy lesion removal do not conduct surgical assessment, cannot send tissue for analysis and are not regulated as medical facilities.
