Skin lesion removal at a surgical clinical standard
Removing a skin lesion is a surgical procedure. The tissue is excised, haemostasis is achieved, and the wound is closed. Done correctly, in a clinical environment with proper technique, the result is clean and the risk of complication is low. At Changes Clinic, our skin lesion removal procedures are carried out by a qualified surgeon at our CQC-registered clinic in Portsmouth, around 15 minutes from Gosport via the Fareham road.
Every patient referred to us for skin lesion removal first undergoes a clinical assessment. We examine the lesion, take a medical history, and assess the most appropriate removal method. For lesions where there is any clinical uncertainty about the nature of the tissue, we arrange for histological analysis of the excised material. This is not optional — it is standard clinical practice. Any provider offering lesion removal without the option of histology is not operating to a medical standard.
Our surgeon will confirm at the consultation what type of lesion you have, whether surgical removal is the right approach, what the procedure involves, and what the healing process looks like. Patients from Gosport and across the Portsmouth area attend our clinic for procedures they could not access quickly through the NHS, or for lesions in locations that benefit from expert surgical placement to minimise scarring.

What we treat
We remove a range of benign and suspected benign skin lesions, including sebaceous cysts, epidermoid cysts, lipomas, moles (including moles that have changed in appearance), skin tags, warts, verrucae, seborrhoeic keratoses, and dermatofibromas. We also see patients with lesions that have been assessed elsewhere and confirmed as benign but are causing discomfort or cosmetic concern.
Removal is carried out under local anaesthetic. Most procedures take between 20 and 45 minutes depending on the size and location of the lesion. Sutures are used where necessary and removed at a follow-up appointment.

Common questions
How far is Changes Clinic from Gosport?
Changes Clinic is at 1000 Lakeside, Cosham, Portsmouth. From Gosport, patients typically reach us in 15 to 20 minutes by car, travelling via the A32 through Fareham and then the A27 eastbound towards Cosham. Free parking is available at the clinic.
Is a consultation required before skin lesion removal?
Yes, a medical consultation is required before any procedure. Our surgeon examines the lesion to confirm its nature, assess the appropriate removal method, and discuss any factors — such as the location on the body or the depth of the lesion — that affect how the procedure is carried out. This appointment is also where we discuss histology and arrange for the excised tissue to be sent for analysis if indicated.
How long do results last?
Skin lesion removal is permanent. The lesion is excised and does not regrow. However, new lesions can develop elsewhere on the body over time, particularly in patients with a tendency towards cysts, lipomas, or moles. If you develop a new concern, we can assess it at a separate consultation.
What makes Changes Clinic different from a beauty salon or non-clinical provider?
Skin lesion removal is a surgical procedure. It requires local anaesthetic, sterile technique, knowledge of wound closure, and the clinical judgement to recognise when a lesion should not be removed in a minor surgery setting. At Changes Clinic, procedures are carried out by a qualified surgeon in a CQC-registered clinic. We offer histology, proper aftercare, and follow-up appointments. None of these are available in a non-clinical setting, and attempting skin lesion removal outside a surgical environment carries significant infection and complication risk.
