Patients choose to access ultrasound scanning through us for a range of reasons. Some want a faster appointment than the current NHS wait allows. You do not need a GP referral to book a private ultrasound scan with us. You book directly, attend your appointment, and receive your results from our clinical team. Where a finding requires onward referral — to your GP, a specialist, or another diagnostic pathway — we provide a written report you can take to your next appointment. Our sonographers are trained to image and interpret the structures relevant to the scan type you have booked, and to flag anything that warrants further investigation.

What we scan

We offer soft tissue ultrasound, musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasound, abdominal and pelvic scanning, and targeted scans for specific areas of concern. Common scan requests include shoulder, knee and hip joints, thyroid, abdominal organs including the liver, gallbladder, kidneys and spleen, and superficial masses or lumps beneath the skin.

All scans are reported by our clinical team and a written report is provided at or shortly after your appointment. For time-sensitive concerns, we aim to provide results on the same day where possible.

I’ve suffered with rosacea for several years and have tried all sorts of creams, skincare routines and products, but nothing really made a lasting difference. Looking after my skin and being mindful of my diet definitely helps to keep it under control, but IPL at Changes Clinic has made the biggest difference by far. The redness in my face has reduced so much, and even when I do get a flare up, it’s nowhere near as bad as it used to be because the underlying redness has improved so much. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with great staff. My lazer hair removal was undertaken by two very capable proffessional young women Kelly and Surmaiyah. Both demonstrate constant care and ensure this not always comfortable experience is as pleasant as possible. The facility is immaculately clean and there is excellent visitor free parking available. I have no hesitation in recommending the clinic to others and whilst I can only comment on the treatments I have received to date I will be availing myself of some of the others services offered.

I am so glad I visited the Changes Clinic today for an upper abdominal ultrasound. I was a nervous wreck as I have a bit of a phobia of scans & Andrea was just brilliant with me. How far is Changes Clinic from Gosport?

Changes Clinic is at 1000 Lakeside, Cosham, Portsmouth. From Gosport, the drive takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes heading north via the A32 through Fareham, then east on the A27 to Cosham. Free parking is available on site — no need to factor in parking time or cost.

Is a consultation required before an ultrasound scan?

You do not need a GP referral or a separate pre-scan consultation. You book the scan directly. At your appointment, our sonographer will take a brief clinical history related to the area of concern before beginning the scan. This helps focus the examination and provides useful context for interpreting what we find. If you have relevant letters, previous scan reports, or imaging from your GP, it is helpful to bring these with you.

How long do ultrasound results last?

An ultrasound scan gives you a picture of your anatomy at the time of the scan. For monitoring purposes — such as tracking a known cyst, hernia, or joint condition — we recommend repeat scans at intervals agreed with your clinical team. For one-off diagnostic questions, a single scan typically provides the answer needed to inform your next clinical decision.

The quality of the equipment, the training of the sonographer, and the governance around reporting all vary significantly between providers.
