How Private Ultrasound Scanning Works at Changes Clinic
A private ultrasound scan gives you access to diagnostic imaging without a GP referral or long NHS wait. Here is what the process looks like at Changes Clinic.
Step 1 — Booking and Preparation
When you book, our team confirms the type of scan required and provides any preparation instructions relevant to your scan. For abdominal scans, you may need to fast or arrive with a full bladder. Some scans have no preparation requirements. We send you clear instructions in advance so you arrive ready.
Step 2 — Your Scan
A qualified sonographer performs your scan at our Portsmouth clinic. You lie on the examination table while the sonographer applies a water-based gel to the area being scanned and moves the ultrasound probe across the skin. The process is painless and takes between 20 and 45 minutes depending on the area being assessed. You can see the screen during the scan if you wish.
Step 3 — Your Results
Your sonographer discusses initial findings with you immediately after the scan where appropriate. A full written report is produced and sent to you, usually within 24 to 48 hours. You can share this report with your GP or a specialist of your choosing. Book your scan
